Band parent Sherry Melby, who is a teacher in the district, stands behind Pollitt’s decision. Melby said she associated the image on the T-shirt with Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution.
“I was disappointed with the image on the shirt.” Melby said. “I don’t think evolution should be associated with our school.”
P.Z. highlight the last bit; however, I think there’s a more important line that he overlooked in this whole debacle. “Band parent Sherry Melby, who is a teacher in the district, stands behind Politt’s decision.”
I’ve always been a fan of Chick Tracts. They’re hilarious, poorly researched, and they’re more of an affront to the humanities than they are to science. The man has no concept of plot structure. There’s not even a witch vs ex-witch fight in this tract at all.
However, the most hilarious one I’ve come across of late has to be this panel:
Now, if you didn’t notice a certain particular line in there:
There will be no more raping, because I just found out that God hates sodomy.
Isn’t that nice. There won’t be any more raping because it’s sexual assualt, because of the damage it causes to the victims, because God doesn’t like rape. No, there will be no more rape because God doesn’t like people getting it up the butt. So what I’ve concluded by this tract: “God, okay with rape, just as long as it’s not in the butt.”
As a whole this tract just doesn’t lend itself to reality. Converting to Christianity in a prison? Really? It’s Islam you convert to in prison and I’m pretty sure the Govenator would have none of this crap.
There’s an article out about how Climate Change will affect the Midwest, it isn’t pretty. This particular article goes into how the senators of those states are adamant about doing nothing about Climate Change. Now, ideology is one of those things that the ruling class can use to establish their authority and get other to go against their own best interest. Certainly protecting the livelihoods of yourself and your progeny would be something important to consider. Instead, for one very big ideological reason the people of Kansas have elected this guy:
Sen. Sam Brownback, who is retiring from the Senate but continues to have statewide ambitions, has said that humanity has a religious imperative to reduce climate emissions, but he has also signed on to the “No Climate Tax Pledge” being pushed by Americans for Prosperity, which opposes climate change legislation.
Let me state the more important bit of this quote again.
humanity has a religious imperative to reduce climate emissions
God (oddly enough being used to do something positive in politics for once) says we need to take care of the planet some I’m just going to oppose the current plan by offering absolutely nothing else. I’m sure God will understand that it’s the Democrats fault since their plan included taxes and even my religious imperative wasn’t as strong as my anti-tax stance.
I’ve never known a Christian to place tax law before God, but I guess you have to break the first commandement somewhere. But, perhaps it’s not gays that are pissing God off at the moment.
I happened to have the History Channel–luckily we now have a movie for our Natzi Killing fixes–and they happened to be showing these really nutjob adds for the Institute for Human Continuity. They seemed like the product of some whackjob group and I was left wondering how they’d amazed enough money for prime time commercial slots. Turns out, it’s just a movie promotion for the equally awful 2012 movie.
Though, I did find one thing intriguing. The poll: Which sport would you like to see re-established first after 2012? Okay, we’ve just been through the apocalypse and our first priority is what sport we’d like to play? I’m thinking we have bigger concerns here. And Nascar? Seriously? Have they seen Mad Max? I was promised the Thunderdome. I intend for that promised to be kept.
As for the target audience, I don’t think they could find more unintelligent superstitious wankers than southwest Missouri. It’s full of morons who can’t wait for the apocalypse so that they can be raptured up. They’re even willing to ignore the fact that the Mayan calander and belief system contradicts Christianity by it’s existence. I just hate this kind of advertising though, it’s aimed at the dumbest fucking people in society.
